In 1960 John Miller worked for an auction company called Morrison McLeary in Sauchiehall St Glasgow. The company auctioned everything from household goods to bric a brac and was based in the building which now houses Victorias nightclub.
In 1963 John then opened a car auction company called Wm Mitchell & Sons based in the Gallowgate in Glasgow. He operated there until his death in 1965 when his widow went into partnership with Alex Beith and formed Central Car Auctions.
The current Chairman Jonathan Miller joined the company in 1967 at the age of 15. Central Car Auctions moved to new premises in Scotland St, Glasgow in 1996 and in April 2002 they moved to a new purpose built facility beside the M8 at Baillieston in the east end of Glasgow.
The new auction centre represents a £4 million investment and boasts the largest heated auction hall in Scotland. The business is run by Jonathan and his son Jason who is the companies Managing Director, he joined the business from school in 1992.
