About Us

Introducing Central Car Auctions
Central Car Auctions has been making buying and selling used vehicles easy since 1965. It all started with a family-run auction house in Glasgow’s Gallowgate area before the business developed and expanded to become what it is today – Scotland’s leading vehicle auction facility.

Where are we now?
Since opening the first auction house, it’s been quite the journey! Today, Central Car Auctions hosts five live weekly auctions, with thousands of vehicles available every week. Customers can bid for and buy their dream stock both in person at our auction facilities and through our live online bidding platform LiveBid, meaning it’s never been easier to find the perfect collection for your forecourts. All vehicles are NAMA graded, so every customer can buy with confidence, knowing they are getting great value, quality, and choice.

Customers looking to sell with Central Car Auctions can enjoy a wide range of benefits to ensure they get the maximum price for their vehicles, including a UK-wide transportation service, a dedicated account manager and access to an audience spanning the full length of the UK.

Looking to the future…
The business has a large portfolio of independent and franchised trade customers across the UK. We currently have a 13-acre site in Glasgow and a brand new site in Birtley, Newcastle. We have plans to expand our presence with the addition of three new locations south of the border in 2024 – including Lingfield, Kidsgrove and Accrington.

With experts on hand, customer-driven services and first-class facilities, Central Car Auctions is the only auction house you need. Simply apply for your motor trade account to access our online auction platform, or get in touch if you have any questions.

Our Heritage

In 1960, our founder John Miller worked at the Morrison McChlery auction house in Sauchiehall Street, which auctioned everything from household goods to bric-a-brac.

In 1963, John set up his own car auction company, Wm Mitchell & Sons, in Glasgow’s Gallowgate area where he operated until 1965, at which time Central Car Auctions was launched.

John’s son and future chairman, Jonathan Miller, joined the company in 1967 at the age of 15. Over the next 30 years, Jonathan developed and expanded the business and, in 1996, re-located to a larger premises in Scotland Street.

The next milestone was in early 2002. Due to further growth and investment, the business relocated to an 13-acre site just off the M8 at Baillieston, creating in the process what is now the country's leading car auction facility.

Now led by Managing Director, Jason Miller, the company and its 50+ employees are in its next phase of growth, joining Arnold Clark Automobiles, in April 2022.

Focussed on investment, growth and continuing to deliver excellent customer value, customer experience and vehicle remarketing services, Central Car Auctions has an exciting road map ahead.
